LinkedIn: like, repost, cringe, logout
There is only one smart option, make sure you take it
I normally write about code, Python,or Rust, but we all need to find an employer unless we have successfully built a business or have a job-for-life?
Do not feed the monkeys
I’m sure this has been covered a million times, but here’s my take:
LinkedIn is a virtue signalling, narcissistic echo chamber where recruiters chance their arm and demoralise “candidates”.
It is so nice to be known as a “candidate” isn’t it?
Better than a “resource” or “applicant” I guess?
Candidate makes it sound like you’re an important (or impotent?) politician 🤡
Would you put your hand through the cage?
Clicking on a thumbs up is cheap, meaningless, and yet once you enter the arena you will also desire as many as possible.
“If I wanted to win shitty prizes, I’d enter shitty races”
~ Mark Cavendish
By seeking 3rd party validation or recognition you are outsourcing your own clarity of thought. Once you observe a trend you’ll be tempted to adjust your course to follow it. (Course as in direction, not training course!).
Slop
People “Like” stuff, in an instant, feeding the algorithm, they no longer care if it’s slop, typos, errors, whatever, it’s all “content” - give me more, I need Mooooooooooaaaaarr…
Don’t just sit there….
If, and this is an “if” - if “AI” takes over, then let’s be done with the showing off, the back slapping, and the filtered photos, let’s let the machines be objective?
I made this, let’s automate job search, and tell the machines to “let me know when you find something, and not before”
Let’s let the facts, words, and the semantic meaning speak for itself, and let’s not spend hours scrolling and applying for something that has +100 applicants like it’s space invader game where you get more points for sending more applications off to jobs@nochance-blackhole.com.
The individuals you scroll past are either smug people with jobs attending charity events, or company “fun” days, or luckless people trying to be the 1 in +100 to be successful at getting a laminated id card on a lanyard, work in a cubicle, and a be a proud owner of a Windows 11 laptop with “MyHR” set as the homepage, and company branded wallpaper for the Desktop, which you are unable to change due to only being a “standard user”.
Link Out!
Get off that godforesaken platform, “stay in your own lane”, “drive your own car”, and dodge these corporate window-lickers.
If you disagree I’d be interested to not hear from you, otherwise shouldn’t we all just escape the siloed hellhole for corporate cubicle dwellers, gubberment salarymen and wet behind the ears novices who are oblivious to the pernicious nature of this ****fest.
Buy a 3d printer, write a poem, grow some carrots, repair a clock, cook some soup, do anything, anything apart from scroll the conveyor belt of digital shite where human spirit goes to die.
¿Qué te piensas?
This is not even a rant, it’s a mild observation, if you want a rant, let me know!
We’re all becoming brands, and we can only acquiesce or exit the clown show. There is no middle ground.
Choose wisely.
